Meet The Team
James Caviel
Director
The founder of Portcullis Wealth Group, James, became a regulated Financial Adviser in May 1990. After spending a decade working in the City as an adviser, his first senior role came in 2001 when he joined a firm of independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) near Chelmsford. Following the sale of that business, he went on to establish his first IFA practice in 2005.
Over the years, James has witnessed significant changes – both in the regulatory environment of advice and across the broader economic landscape. From the ERM crisis of 1992 and the dot-com bubble of 2000, to the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-08, the Covid-19 Lockdown, and more recently, the turbulence caused by international trade disputes =, James’ career has spanned many defining moments.
Outside of work, James is a keen cyclist and swimmer. He has completed several charity rides, including the iconic Lands’ End to John O’Groats challenge. He also enjoys upscaling old furniture and travelling with his partner, Karen.
Ben Padmore
Trainee Financial Adviser
With over 10 years of experience in wealth management and financial advice, Ben is dedicated to applying his expertise to develop tax-efficient investment strategies that help clients manage their wealth and estates effectively. He holds a Master of Science degree in Investment and Risk Finance from the University of Westminster, has passed the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) through the CFA Society UK, and earned the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD) through the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). Ben is currently working toward achieving the prestigious Chartered Wealth Manager designation by the end of 2026.
Outside of work, Ben is a passionate endurance athlete and has completed several challenging endurance events such as Ironman 70.3 Warsaw and the London Marathon. When he isn’t training, he’s either studying for his next big exam or watching rugby on the sofa, much to the chagrin of his partner, Lara.
Kim Brewer
Client Services Administrator
Kim began working with James and Dawn in 2015. Before joining the team, she started her career at a firm of local Chartered Loss Adjusters before moving to a Chartered Accountants practice. She later relocated to London, where she worked for two further accountancy firms, supporting High Net Worth Clients within the Private Client and Financial Services departments.
In her spare time, Kim enjoys gardening and exercising her dog. With her two children now grown up, Kim and her husband like to travel more and indulge her love of reading.
Dawn Doyle
Client Services Administrator
Dawn has been supporting Portcullis Group’s clients for over a decade since joining James and the team. With more than 30 years of experience in financial services administration, she has developed extensive expertise across all aspects of the industry and holds the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII) certificate in Financial Services.
Outside of work, Dawn enjoys spending time with her granddaughter, solving crossword puzzles, and travelling to new countries to experience different cultures.
Daisy and Lottie
Non-Executive Directors of Morale
When not snacking on whatever food happens to be lying around, they excel at providing outstanding moral support, endless cuddles, and keeping spirits high. Other duties include (but are not limited to) greeting visitors at the door and stealing the limelight during meetings with their constant demands for attention. As its the lead into Christmas Lottie & Daisy are sporting their seasonal wear as fashion conscious canines.
Outside of work, Lottie and Daisy enjoy creating a little havoc at home and going on country walks with James and his partner, Karen
